A 10-foot python has been rescued from a fish warehouse (arot) in Patharghata, Barguna, and later released into a forest.

The python was rescued at around 11am on Wednesday, 16 August, from a warehouse at the Ruhita Bottola fish market next to Bihango island in the upazila.

Rescuer Zakir Munshi said local warehouse owner Helal went to his warehouse at the Ruhita Bottola fish market in the morning. On opening the gate, he saw the python among the cork sheets kept for storing fish. Helal screamed in fear, and people nearby came running. Zakir Munshi went to the warehouse on hearing the news and rescued the snake.

Zakir Munshi added that he had earlier rescued more than 150 pythons and released them into various forests, including the Sundarbans.

Assistant conservator of forests Tarikul Islam and district range officer Mohammad Motiar Rahman said they had heard of the rescue, and that the python was released into a protected forest in the afternoon.
