A mobile court has fined two people Tk 45,000 for collecting excessive tolls at a cattle market in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha.

Upazila executive magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Foyez Uddin imposed the fine during a drive at the Mather Bazar cattle market in Betkapa union on Monday (26 June) evening.

Mobile court sources said that for a long time the Mather Bazar cattle market had been charging several times the government rate of Tk 400 for a cow and Tk 150 for a goat. Acting on complaints from victims, the mobile court raided the market. The complaints were found to be true, and the two toll collectors were fined Tk 45,000.

Executive Magistrate SM Foyez Uddin told Jago News that such drives would continue in the public interest.
