The Teesta river in Nilphamari continues to rise after incessant rain and upstream flows. At 9pm on Sunday, 28 June, the water level at the Dalia Teesta Barrage point was recorded at 52.25 metres, 10 centimetres above the danger level, raising fears that low-lying areas will be flooded.

Amitabh Chowdhury, executive engineer of the Water Development Board at Dalia, said the level at the barrage point at 6pm on Sunday was 52.22 metres, 7 centimetres above the danger level. By 9pm it had risen further to 52.25 metres, putting the Teesta 10 centimetres above the danger level.

He said the situation is being monitored as upstream flows continue. If the river rises further, the flood situation in low-lying areas could worsen.
