A mobile court has fined the lease-holder of a cattle market in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon Tk 10,000 for collecting extra toll (hasil).

The drive was carried out on the afternoon of Monday, 26 June, at the Hatra cattle market in Chandannagar union of the upazila by upazila assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate Liza Akter Bithi.

Niamatpur upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Imtiaz Morshed told Jagonews that complaints had come in of extra toll being collected at cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. The government has set the toll at Tk 500 for each cow, buffalo and horse and Tk 200 for each goat and sheep, but market lease-holders were collecting more than this.

The UNO said that on Monday, after complaints of extra toll at the upazila's Chhatra market (as he named it), the assistant commissioner (land) was ordered to carry out a drive. The drive found the complaint to be true, and the lease-holder was fined Tk 10,000 in cash.
