A chick with four legs has hatched in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram. Despite its four legs, it can move about normally.

The chick hatched two weeks ago at the home of Aminul Islam in Byapartari village of Kachakata union in the upazila.

Aminul Islam's wife, Nuri Akter, said one of her hens laid seven eggs, which were set to hatch. Several of the eggs spoiled, and two chicks hatched from the remaining two. One of them has four legs. The chick walks on two legs, and the other two, which are comparatively a little smaller, cause it no trouble.

District livestock officer Dr Abdul Hai Sarkar said four-legged chicks are often born. In medical science this is called a birth anomaly, meaning a congenital irregularity or defect, and such chicks are born because of congenital problems.
