A pond in Muradnagar, Cumilla, has allegedly been poisoned over an old feud, killing its fish. The incident happened on Thursday at the pond of Ali Ahammad in Suranandi village of the upazila.

The pond's owner, Ali Ahammad, said: "As on every day, I was going to the mosque for the Fajr prayer when I saw several catla fish floating dead in the pond. Later, when it was light, I saw countless fish of various species had died and floated up."

"I have no real quarrel with anyone in the area," he said. "But there has been a long-running dispute with my neighbours over the land of our homestead, and a case over it is going on in court. They have threatened at various times to harm us. I suspect they poisoned my pond. I have lost fish worth about Tk 40,000."

Sadekur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Muradnagar police station, said no one had filed a complaint with the police. If a written complaint is received, it will be investigated and legal action taken, he said.
