A crocodile has turned up in the net of a fisherman named Jabul Hossain Talukder while he was fishing in a river in Muladi upazila of Barishal.
It happened on the morning of Monday (17 July) in the Jayanti river in Nazirpur union of Muladi upazila, and has caused alarm among other fishermen.
Fisherman Jabul Hossain said: "As every day, I cast my nets for aair and pangas in the Jayanti river in the morning. A little later, when I was pulling in the net, it felt very heavy. When the net came close, I saw the crocodile. At first I was a bit scared, then I carefully dragged the net to the riverbank and informed our member, Rubel."
Wildlife officials called
Nazirpur Union Parishad member Rubel said that on hearing about the crocodile from the fishermen, he informed the police station and the UNO, who asked him and the fishermen to look after it. "We are taking care of the crocodile. Curious crowds are gathering to see it," he said.
Muladi police station officer in charge (OC) Md Mahabub said UP member Rubel told him about the crocodile by mobile phone in the morning. He sent police to the spot and then informed the upazila nirbahi officer.
Muladi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Bakul Chandra Kabiraj told Jagonews24 he had informed the wildlife conservation department and sent them pictures. Officials have set out from Dhaka to take the crocodile into care, he said.
