Qurbani meat collected from homes around Moulvibazar town was being sold by the kilo, allowing people who could not give Qurbani to buy meat at a low price.

On Thursday (28 May) afternoon, meat was seen selling at Tk 400 to 500 a kg on the Chandnighat bridge in the town.

Meat was being sold from makeshift stalls on the bridge. While meat sells at Tk 800 a kg through the year, the Qurbani meat was going for Tk 400 to 500. Poor people had collected it from homes in the town and were selling it, and crowds of buyers gathered.

Chan Mia and Raju Ahmed said: "There are five members in our family. We are poor people. On Eid day we all collect meat from houses in the town. Each of us collected 10 to 15 kg. We kept what we need to eat and sold the rest."

Buyer Shahin Ahmad said his home is in Chandpur but he lives in Moulvibazar for work. "My salary is low, so I couldn't give Qurbani, and I couldn't go home this time either. So I bought 3 kg of meat here for Tk 1,500. This is good for those who sell the meat and good for people like us. If they didn't sell it, we probably couldn't eat Qurbani meat at all."
