Three civet cubs have been rescued in Kamalganj, Moulvibazar. The forest department rescued them from the Barocheg area of the upazila on Monday morning, 21 April.

Md Tajul Islam, a junior wildlife scout in Sreemangal, confirmed the rescue. He said they went to a house in Barocheg after hearing that the civet cubs were there. On Sunday the mother civet had left her home with the three cubs and gone to the house, where she attacked a pigeon and quail farm. The household caught the three cubs but could not catch the mother.

Tajul said efforts were made to return the cubs to their mother, but the household did not want that because the civets "harm the pigeons and quails". The team then rescued the three cubs and placed them at the Janakichhara Wildlife Rescue Centre in Lawachhara National Park for care. After some time in care, once they have grown a little, they will be released into the Lawachhara forest, he said.

Sohel Shyam, co-founder of Stand For Our Endangered Wildlife, said he told the forest department after seeing news on a Facebook group that three cubs were being held. The cubs were then rescued together with the forest department.

Jamil Mohammad Khan, assistant conservator of forests in the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Division, said the three cubs are a little over a month old, which is why they have been placed at the Janakichhara Wildlife Rescue Centre in Lawachhara National Park.
