There is no shortage of cattle or goats in the country ahead of the coming Qurbani Eid, according to Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdur Rahman, the MP for Faridpur-1.

"There is no shortage of livestock in the country. We are self-sufficient in this respect, so there is no need to import cattle from abroad," he said. "At the same time, various steps have been taken to encourage the country's farmers."

The minister spoke to journalists on Saturday afternoon (8 June) after opening a three-day diversified jute products fair in Faridpur.

He told Jago News that because there is no shortage of animals, devout Muslims will be able to celebrate the Qurbani Eid properly this year. "Last year about five lakh animals went unsold. This year another four and a half lakh have been added to that. Demand in our country is 1 crore 29 lakh animals, and there are more than 1 crore 30 lakh," he said.
