Rain and runoff from upstream have raised the water in Kurigram's main rivers. According to the Water Development Board (WDB), at 9am on Monday 29 June the Dudhkumar river was flowing 23 cm above the danger mark at the Pateshwari point.

At 9am the Dudhkumar was recorded at 29.83 metres at Pateshwari, where the danger mark is 29.60 metres. The point recorded 138 mm of rain, and the water rose 7 cm there from the morning.

The Dharla was at 25.45 metres at the Kurigram point, 60 cm below the danger mark, and at 30.47 metres at the Taluk Shimulbari point, 40 cm below the danger mark. Kurigram recorded 82 mm of rain.

The WDB said that from 6am to 9am on Monday the Brahmaputra rose 2 cm at the Nunkhawa point, 2 cm at the Hatia point and 13 cm at the Chilmari point, flowing below the danger mark. Chilmari recorded 80 mm of rain.

The Teesta rose to 29.25 metres at the Kaunia point at 9am, up 25 cm since 6am and flowing just 6 cm below the danger mark. That point recorded 52 mm of rain.

Kurigram WDB executive engineer Rakibul Hasan said the Dudhkumar has crossed the danger mark because of upstream runoff and the other rivers are also rising. According to the flood forecast, the water may rise further in the next 72 hours and cause a short-term flood.
