A baghair fish weighing 41kg 700g has been caught in fishermen's nets in the Dudhkumar river in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram.
The fish was caught early on Sunday in the net of a fisherman named Rafiqul Islam near the Sonahat bridge on the river.
When the fishermen could not bring it ashore after it was caught in the net, they landed it with the help of local people. It was later sold at Tk 1,100 a kg.
"The biggest in my net"
Fisherman Rafiqul Islam said he was delighted to catch such a big fish. It was the first time such a large baghair had been caught in his net.
Upazila fisheries officer Farajul Islam confirmed the catch, saying: "Even after I learned of it, I could not see the fish because I was on examination duty."
Local people crowded to see and buy the fish. They said it was surprising that such a big fish would be caught in the Dudhkumar in this dry season.
