The forest department has rescued a python that was caught in a fishing net in Kalmakanda, Netrokona, and released it into the forest.

The python became trapped in fishermen's net on the afternoon of Wednesday, 15 July, near Senpara Government Primary School in Kharnoi union of the upazila. It was about 8 feet long and weighed 11 kg.

According to local sources, forest department staff led by Lengura forest beat officer Md Samiul Islam Siam went to the spot on Thursday morning and rescued the snake. It was then released into the Kanthalbari forest near the Lengura border.

Md Samiul Islam Siam said killing wild animals is a punishable offence. He urged people who see a wild animal near homes not to kill it but to inform the forest department quickly.
