A hilsa weighing two kilograms 100 grams has been caught in Kalapara, Patuakhali, and sold for Tk 6,090.

The fish sold on the morning of Wednesday, 3 September, at Monowara fish wholesale market in Mohipur in the upazila, at almost Tk 2,900 a kg.

It was caught along with other fish on Monday, 1 September, in the Bay of Bengal by the trawler FB Maa of local fisherman Delowar Majhi.

The buyer, Sagir Akon, said: "When fisherman Delowar Majhi brought the fish to the market in the morning, I bought it for Tk 6,090 at a rate of Tk 1,16,000 per maund. Such large fish are not found often; today I got one. Large sea fish are mainly seen in this season."

Apu Saha, senior fisheries officer of Kalapara upazila, said: "Large hilsa are mainly deep-sea fish. Catching a big hilsa is good news for fishermen. If fishing follows the rules, more big hilsa will be caught in the Bay of Bengal in future."
