Kadam flowers bloom in the rainy season, and the flower is called the messenger of the monsoon, which is why the kadam tree is a favourite at this time of year. The monsoon, especially the month of Asharh, is also the right time to plant kadam saplings. As it is a fast-growing tree, a few things should be kept in mind when planting it.
About the tree
The kadam is known by many names, including kadamba, bul kadam, brittapushpa, meghagampriya, karnapurak, bhringaballabh, manjukeshini, pulaki, sarshap, prabrishya, lalanapriya, surabhi and sindhupushpa. The tree usually grows 15 to 20 metres tall. It is native to Bangladesh, India, China and Malaysia.
When and how to plant
In Bangladesh the monsoon, especially Asharh, is the right time to plant kadam trees. Dig a pit 6 to 12 inches deep and wide for the sapling.
Soil and fertiliser
Kadam trees need fertile loamy soil for planting. The tree usually grows on riverbanks and in wetlands. It is good to apply organic fertiliser after planting.
Care
Water the kadam tree regularly and clear the weeds. Planting this tree adds to the beauty of the surroundings and also contributes to protecting the environment.
