Many people suffer from pain in the joints, and middle-aged people in particular are troubled by it. It is mainly a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis.
Patients with this disease feel pain in the joints of the knees, ankles, back, wrists or neck. Many people think of rheumatoid arthritis as only pain where the bones meet, but the disease is more than that. Besides pain in the bones, it can cause various other physical problems.
Rheumatoid arthritis lowers the patient's immunity and increases inflammation and pain in the bones. When the problem becomes severe, it can seriously affect the eyes, skin, lungs, heart and blood vessels.
The disease cannot be cured overnight, but if it is detected at an early stage it can be brought under some control. Apart from joint pain, these are other symptoms of the disease:
Other symptoms
- Extreme fatigue is an early sign of every disease, and it can also point to rheumatoid arthritis.
- Frequent fever: if fever comes on suddenly and often, or you feel feverish, it may be a sign of rheumatoid arthritis, as fever signals that a disease is taking hold in the body.
- Sudden numbness in the hands and feet is another sign of the disease, and the strength of the hands and feet may also decrease.
- Long-lasting pain in the hands and feet calls for caution. Rheumatoid arthritis does not necessarily cause severe pain; at the start the pain is mild.
- Red eyes are another serious sign of rheumatoid arthritis.
- Weight loss is also a reason to be careful.
