Lettuce goes well with many dishes at home, whether sandwiches, burgers or all kinds of salad. And in winter a little coriander in a vegetable or fish curry greatly lifts both the aroma and the taste.
But it is not always possible to buy them from the market when needed, and buying a lot at once means they go off. So you can grow lettuce and coriander in a small kitchen garden and pick them fresh for cooking whenever you like. Growing them is not much trouble.
Light and pots
If your kitchen does not get much sun, there is nothing to worry about: lettuce does not need a lot of sun. A spot that gets light but not strong sun is best for it. Coriander also grows very easily in a kitchen garden. Light sun or partial shade suits it too, and it can be cut regularly, so fresh leaves are always to hand.
Lettuce and coriander can be grown in small pots, so even with little space they can easily be planted. If the plants grow large, you can move to bigger pots depending on the space in your kitchen.
Soil and water
Moist soil is very good for lettuce and coriander, so water regularly, but make sure water does not collect at the base of the plants. Pay special attention to the soil: loam mixed with compost will make the plants grow quickly and healthily.
Even in a small kitchen, following these tips will give you fresh lettuce and coriander for everyday meals, rich in taste, aroma and nutrition.
