• A gher chosen for galda prawn farming must be able to hold water 3.0 to 4.0 feet deep for four to six months.
• The soil of the gher must have a high water-holding capacity, so that it does not dry out quickly.
• Ghers with loam or sandy loam soil are generally suitable for galda prawn farming.
• It helps to hold water if the gher is on slightly low-lying land.
