The district office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection raided hilsa wholesale depots in Faridpur and fined one depot Tk 20,000.

The drive ran from 11:30am to 2pm on Thursday (26 September) at Haji Shariatullah Bazar in Faridpur town.

A depot named Das Bhandar was fined Tk 20,000 for charging too much for hilsa, having no purchase vouchers and not selling the promised goods properly. Several hilsa depots and wholesale and retail shops were also inspected and warned.

Confirming the drive, Sohel Sheikh, assistant director of the district consumer rights directorate, said such drives would continue to keep hilsa prices at a bearable level and to stop manipulation of the hilsa trade.
