A 14-year-old boy named Arfan Munshi has died of a snakebite while he was asleep in Bhanga, Faridpur.

He died at around 2am on the night of Monday, 7 July. Arfan was the son of Md Hatem Munshi of Charabhita village in Kaulibera union of the upazila.

Local people, family and hospital sources said Arfan went to sleep after dinner. In the middle of the night he suddenly felt unwell and woke his family. He then began to suffer severe pain and a burning sensation in his body. When he was taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex at around 2am, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Md Rezaul Hasnat-Dudumia, chairman of Kaulibera union parishad, told Jago News that a venomous snake had bitten the boy in his sleep, and that the doctor declared him dead after the family took him to hospital.

Confirming the incident, Bhanga upazila health and family planning officer Dr Tansiv Jubayer told Jago News that relatives who came with the patient said he had been bitten by a snake in his sleep, but he died before he was brought to the hospital.
