A mobile court fined three people for selling hilsa in Faridganj, Chandpur. The fines were imposed in a drive at a market in the upazila on Sunday (13 October).

The mobile court was run by Faridganj upazila assistant commissioner (land) and Faridganj municipal administrator A R M Zahid Hasan.

Court sources said three fish sellers were caught red-handed selling hilsa at Faridganj bazar, and a mobile court was held on the spot. Each of the three was fined Tk 5,000 under the fish protection and conservation law, and the fines were collected. They were also made to sign a bond on condition that they would be jailed if caught selling hilsa again during the ban.

He added that 188 kg of seized hilsa were distributed among orphaned and needy students at Keroa Rawzatul Quran Madrasa in Faridganj, Kachiara Karimia Ahmadia Qiratul Quran Madrasa and Orphanage, and the Government Shishu Paribar in Chandpur Sadar.

Faridganj police station officer in charge Md Hanif Sarkar, upazila fisheries office field assistant Shahinur Akter, Md Redwan Khan and members of the Rover Scouts were present.
