Farida Akhter, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, has said it cannot be that we celebrate Eid but are afraid at Puja. If everyone tries together, we can hold a good puja, she said.

She said this as chief guest at a meeting with the puja celebration committee on Monday afternoon (7 October) in the conference room of the Tangail deputy commissioner.

She said the last cabinet meeting had seriously discussed making this year's puja the puja of a new Bangladesh. Before that, the chief adviser had met the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, where it was said that everyone in Bangladesh is one family and there is no such thing as minority or majority.

The adviser said the Coast Guard, navy and BGB are working to prevent hilsa smuggling.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque. Speakers included Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam, acting president of the district puja celebration committee Chittaranjan Sarkar, general secretary Pradip Kumar Gun Jhontu, and leaders of district and upazila puja celebration committees.
