Farida Akhter, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, has visited damaged fish and poultry farms in flood-hit areas of Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla.

On Saturday afternoon (24 August), after visiting farms in different parts of the upazila, she distributed relief among marooned people and assured affected farmers of all-out support.

The adviser visited flood-damaged fish farms in Falgunkara, Barais and Munshirhat unions of the upazila and spoke with fish farmers.

The fish farmers asked her for bank loans on easy terms, supply of fish fry, subsidies on electricity, and a suspension of bank instalments for a few months. She then visited damaged layer and Sonali chicken farms at Atgram and Batisa daily markets.

The adviser assured the farmers of full cooperation in recovering from their losses and also gave directions on ensuring safe fish and livestock production.

Among those present during the visit were Sayeed Mahmud Belal Haider, secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock; Dr Mohammad Reazul Haque, director general of the Department of Livestock Services; Md Zillur Rahman, director general of the Department of Fisheries; joint secretaries Dr Abu Naim Muhammad Abdus Sabur and Mosammat Zohra Khatun; Cumilla district fisheries officer Belal Hossain; Cumilla livestock officer Chandan Kumar Poddar; and Mehedi Hasan Shaon, senior assistant director of the Cumilla district fisheries office.
