The Detective Branch (Uttara division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three members of an "ogyan and molom party", a gang that drugs victims with sedatives and ointment, from the Kotwali police station area of the capital.

Sixty sedative tablets, three tins of ointment and three tubes of ointment were seized from them. The arrested are Md Mobarak Khan alias Sagar, Md Hasan Khan and Md Rasel.

Md Saiful Alam Mujahid, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the airport zonal team of the Detective Branch's Uttara division, gave the information on Tuesday (27 June) afternoon. He said they were arrested in a drive in the Jindabahar area under Kotwali police station.

Citing preliminary questioning, ADC Saiful Alam said the arrested are active members of an organised drugging gang. Around Eid-ul-Azha, they would mingle with traders and buyers who came to cattle markets in different parts of Dhaka. They would then target people and skilfully use sedative tablets in liquid food and ointment to rob them of everything and flee.

The DB official said a case has been filed against them at Kotwali police station.
