Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) ran market monitoring and mobile courts in several kitchen markets on Saturday, 3 October, to keep egg prices bearable for consumers and stop excess profits. The drives covered Fakirapool, Kaptan Bazar, Basabo Bou Bazar, Nawabganj Bazar and other areas.

At Basabo Bou Bazar, a team led by Zone-2 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Abu Aslam checked traders' egg selling prices, wholesale purchase receipts and margins. Traders were warned not to overcharge, two cases were filed for footpath encroachment and breaking the law with fines of Tk 15,000 collected, and goods blocking the footpath were removed.

DSCC Estate Officer and Executive Magistrate Hasiba Khan monitored Fakirapool market, and Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam Kaptan Bazar. They reviewed egg supply and warned traders against creating an artificial shortage or selling above fair prices.

At Nawabganj Bazar, monitoring was led by Zone-3 Regional Executive Officer Akhtar Unnesa Shiuly, and at the Ward 7 kitchen market in Zone-5 by Regional Executive Officer Zainal Molla.

DSCC said such drives will continue in the public interest to keep the prices of essentials within ordinary people's reach.
