Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) are preparing to set up 16 temporary cattle markets in different parts of the capital for the coming Eid-ul-Azha. Tenders have been invited, and each city will have eight markets. Sacrificial animals will also be sold at DNCC's permanent market in Gabtoli and DSCC's permanent market in Sarulia, Demra.

Officials of the two city corporations said tenders have been invited to lease the 16 temporary markets, and sale of tender documents has already begun. Leases may be finalised by the middle of this month. Subject to the sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Azha will be held in the country on 29 June.

On 2 May, DNCC chief estate officer Mohammad Mahe Alam invited tenders for eight cattle markets. Under the tender, the markets and their prices are: the vacant land next to Bhatara (Sayeed Nagar) at Tk 1 crore 13 lakh 70 thousand 267; the Bou Bazar area next to sectors 16 and 18 of Uttara Diabari at Tk 1 crore 20 lakh; the vacant land from Block B to H of Aftab Nagar Eastern Housing, Badda, at Tk 1 crore 51 lakh 6 thousand 60; the Eastern Housing area of Mirpur Section-6 at Tk 1 crore 35 lakh 34 thousand 560; Bosila in Mohammadpur at Tk 29 lakh 75 thousand; the playground of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute at Tk 60 lakh 63 thousand 200; the vacant land next to Kawla Shialdanga at Tk 24 lakh 50 thousand; and the Rahman Nagar residential project area of Kachkura Beparipara in ward 44 at Tk 5 lakh 31 thousand 60.

According to the DNCC estate department, 15 May is the last day for buying tender documents in the first round. Tenders must be submitted the next day, 16 May, and will be opened that afternoon. Schedules can be bought and submitted at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's office, the DNCC estate department and 10 zonal offices. If the expected price is not offered, DNCC will invite tenders for the markets in three more rounds.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam told Jago News that Eid-ul-Azha brings many tasks, including leasing cattle markets and waste management, which need preparation at least two or three months ahead. Accordingly, DNCC has invited tenders for eight temporary markets, and sacrificial animals will also be sold at the permanent Gabtoli market. All preparations are being made so that animal sacrifice and waste removal in the city are properly managed, he said.

On 27 April, DSCC invited tenders to lease seven cattle markets. At government prices, these are: the open area next to the Institute of Leather Technology College at Tk 2 crore 19 lakh 47 thousand 692; the vacant land around the Postogola crematorium at Tk 1 crore 48 lakh 75 thousand 922; the vacant land next to Meradia Bazar at Tk 1 crore 72 lakh 9 thousand 100; the vacant land next to Little Friends Club and next to Kamalapur Stadium at Tk 2 crore 99 lakh 45 thousand; the vacant land next to Donia College in Jatrabari at Tk 3 crore 14 lakh 82 thousand 278; the vacant land next to the Dholaikhal truck stand at Tk 2 crore 48 lakh 59 thousand 120; and the vacant land next to Rahmatganj Club in Lalbagh at Tk 39 lakh 32 thousand 600.

On 30 April, DSCC separately invited tenders for one more market, on the vacant land next to Amulia Model Town, with a government lease price of Tk 29 lakh 28 thousand 252. Schedules for these markets will be sold until 22 May, and will be submitted and opened the next day, 23 May.

DSCC estate officer Md Moniruzzaman told Jago News that besides these eight markets, sacrificial animals will be sold at DSCC's permanent cattle market in Sarulia. DSCC is making all preparations so that animals can be bought and sold smoothly at all the markets, he said.
