A giant dead dolphin has washed up on Kuakata sea beach in Patuakhali, with injury marks on various parts of its body. It is thought the dolphin died as a result of blows from fishermen.

The 10-foot dolphin surfaced late on Thursday night (28 January) at the mouth of three rivers next to Lemburban on the beach. Local fishermen spotted it first and informed fisheries officials.

Kalapara fisheries officer Zahirunnabi said that since there was no facility to preserve it, the dolphin was buried in a joint effort by the tourist police and the Department of Fisheries.

Patuakhali District Fisheries Officer Md Emdadullah said the dolphin's washing ashore had been reviewed. It is thought that it was caught and injured by a mother vessel moving in the deep sea, whose crew threw it back into the sea, and it then drifted to the beach, he said.
