A hospital for pets has been set up in Bangladesh for the first time. The world-class hospital, with state-of-the-art facilities at Purbachal in Dhaka, opens its doors on 27 October.

Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) has been opening one new chapter after another for the country's livestock and biodiversity. Following an anatomy museum and a fisheries museum on the university campus, a livestock operating theatre with modern facilities, several research centres off campus and many other initiatives, the country's first pet hospital is now being added.

The Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Centre, on one bigha of land at Purbachal in Dhaka, has world-class services and equipment in medicine, surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, radiology and other departments, just as in human healthcare.

An operating theatre with modern facilities and all the other units have already been set up, and they will be able to provide the best possible care for treating diseases in all kinds of pets.

The CVASU vice-chancellor says the institution marks the start of a new chapter in the country for residential research on pet diseases.
