A cow in Pali district of India's Rajasthan has been seriously injured after eating explosives. The cow has been admitted to hospital, but although it is being treated, doctors doubt whether the animal can be saved in the end. The villagers are angry at this act of extreme cruelty, and the cow protection committee has also protested.

It is still not clear who in the village did this. The cow protection organisation Go-Putra Sena, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal have strongly condemned the incident and called for swift action against those responsible. Go-Putra Sena has also filed a complaint against unidentified accused at Siriyari police station.

Investigating police officer Suresh Sharan said the preliminary investigation has been completed and the culprits will be arrested very soon.

Before this, a string of animal cruelty cases has caused an uproar in the country. The first to draw everyone's attention was a case in Kerala in which a 15-year-old pregnant elephant was killed after being fed explosives. A similar case then came to light in Madhya Pradesh, where a cow was fed explosives.
