The Right Way to Breathe

How we breathe affects our physical and mental health, and a simple hand test shows whether we are breathing correctly.

Our physical wellbeing depends on the way we breathe. When we breathe in, we take in oxygen, and when we breathe out, carbon dioxide and toxins leave the body.

The habit of breathing correctly affects mental health and overall lifestyle. To breathe properly, the body also has to be in the right position, because the effectiveness of each breath depends on it. People who sit hunched over, or do not keep their back straight while walking, do not get proper blood circulation; they develop digestive problems, and their concentration suffers too.

Here is how to breathe correctly. Sit up straight in a chair, or you can lie flat on your back. Fold your left hand and place it on your chest, with your right hand on your belly.

If your chest rises and falls, you will know that the maximum amount of oxygen is not entering your body. When you breathe properly, your belly will rise and fall.
