A venomous monocled cobra (padma gokhra) has been found with 25 eggs in a house at Boalkhali in Chattogram. The snake and its eggs were recovered intact at about 11pm on Friday, 28 August.

The cobra and its eggs were rescued by Amir Hossain Shaon, a member of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team. He said the snake was released in the jungle on Saturday morning.

Shaon said the family of Biplob, in the Thakur Bari area of Popadia union, had piled sacks of sand and broken brick on the verandah of their house. They saw the snake when they went to fetch sand from the pile.

"On getting the news we rescued the monocled cobra, about 5 feet long," Shaon said. "We also found 25 intact eggs and one shed skin. The eggs have been placed naturally for hatching. The snake was released in the jungle on Saturday morning."
