The amusing video of a chimpanzee mother disciplining her young went viral on Twitter. It was tweeted on Thursday (23 March) by Susanta Nanda, an officer of the Indian forest service. In the caption he wrote: "Kid throwing stones at visitors taken to task… They are just like us. It's the parents who teaches the real Manners!"

In the video, five or six chimpanzees are sitting on a high rock inside an enclosure, each busy with something of its own. One baby chimpanzee among them stands up and throws a stone at the visitors. Then something surprising happens.

Annoyed at what her young one has done, the mother chimpanzee raises a tree branch and charges at the baby. She lands several blows on the baby's back with the branch, and after the beating the baby chimpanzee runs away.

Soon after it was shared on Twitter, the video went viral on other social media as well. The amusing episode caused something of a stir, and the comment box overflowed.

Many commented that people should learn from the chimpanzee mother. Others wrote that when people throw stones at animals and birds, such discipline is often not seen, and that it is not only humans: animals have a conscience too.
