Dieback, fruit rot and lesion disease spread to chilli plants through air, water and other means from alternative host plants and discarded plant parts. Humid weather and heavy rain help the disease spread, and it is also spread through seed.
The Agriculture Information Service has set out how to control the disease.
Remedies
- Collect seed from healthy, strong fruit.
- Before sowing, treat the seed by mixing it with a carbendazim-group fungicide, or a carboxin + thiram-group fungicide, at 2.5g per kg of seed.
- Arrange drainage.
- Gather and destroy discarded plant parts, weeds and nearby plants of the datura family.
- As soon as the disease appears, spray the plants every 7-10 days with a propiconazole-group fungicide mixed at 0.5ml per litre of water.
