Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has said urban development will not be confined to any particular area, and that the corporation is working to spread the benefits of planned development equally to every ward of the city.

He said this on Thursday, 6 August, while inspecting development works and important roads from Tigerpass via Oxygen, from Ward 1 South Pahartali to Ward 41 Patenga.

During the visit the mayor reviewed the progress and quality of ongoing beautification, tree planting, road repair, median improvement, cleaning and various infrastructure projects. He told the officials and engineers concerned to finish the works on time and ensure their quality.

Inspecting the roundabout under construction at Oxygen junction, he ordered the work to be finished quickly. He also asked the chief engineer to take the necessary steps to repair city roads damaged by the recent heavy rain.

He ordered the removal of rubbish from medians and islands on major roads, planned tree planting, beautification and regular monitoring, and stressed adequate lighting on important roads.

The mayor said the corporation was giving importance to environmental balance as well as infrastructure. Its aim, he said, is to build a clean, green, healthy, safe and smart Chattogram through large-scale tree planting and beautification.

He said he had ordered roads damaged by the recent heavy rain to be repaired quickly, to ease citizens' hardship and restore normal traffic.

Dr Shahadat Hossain said no negligence or substandard work would be tolerated. Every project must be carried out quickly while keeping to the set standard, and officials must be regularly present in the field to supervise work and ensure services to citizens.

CCC's acting chief executive officer and secretary Md Ashraful Amin, chief conservancy officer Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, chief engineer Anisur Rahman and other officials were present.
