Two people have died of snakebites in Bholahat, Chapainawabganj, and another is being treated at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The incidents happened around midday on Sunday, 5 October, in Alalpur and Kharbatra villages of the upazila's Sadar union.

The dead are Md Ranaul Islam (36) of Alalpur village and Md Azizul Islam (58) of Kharbatra village, both in Sadar union.

Local people said a snake bit Ranaul Islam in the morning while he was asleep at home. He was taken to Bholahat Upazila Health Complex, but as there was no antivenom there he was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). He died on the way.

Md Azizul Islam was bitten while washing his hands and feet after finishing work in a paddy field. He was taken to hospital quickly but died while under treatment.

Anarul Islam (55) of Hossain Bhita village in the upazila has also been bitten and has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Bholahat police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shahidul Islam said two people had died of snakebites in separate places, and the families would be allowed to bury them once legal procedures were complete.
