The National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate has fined two traders for storing rotten hilsa for sale at Boro Station, Chandpur's hilsa wholesale landing. The drive was carried out by the directorate's district office at the fish landing area on Monday afternoon (14 September), and the two businesses were fined a total of Tk 6,000.

In the same drive, two hotels were fined Tk 4,000 for not displaying price lists, bringing total fines on the four businesses to Tk 10,000. The drive was led by Abdullah Al Imran, assistant director of the directorate's Chandpur district office.

He said that under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, Amir Hossain and Selim Howlader were each fined Tk 3,000 for storing spoiled and rotten hilsa for sale. Khawa Dawa Hotel and Arfan Hotel were each fined Tk 2,000 for having no price list. The seized rotten hilsa was then destroyed.

A team of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party assisted in the drive. Such drives will continue in the public interest to protect consumers.
