Complaints about fraud in buying hilsa online have recently been raised at important meetings of the Chandpur district administration. Law enforcers have begun working to prevent it.

Chandpur district police have already started a campaign warning people to "beware of fraudsters when buying hilsa online".

The district police said complaints have been coming in through various channels that people selling hilsa on Facebook take advance payment and then cut off contact. Investigating such complaints, police found these pages are not run from Chandpur.

Through their investigation, police have identified the pages run by traders. If anyone is cheated by these pages and complains to the police, quick legal action will be taken.

Abdul Bari Jamadar Manik, president of the Chandpur District Fish Traders' Cooperative Society, said pages for selling hilsa and other fish have been identified. Others can contact him to be included in the list.

Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Saiful Islam said buyers must beware of fraudsters when buying hilsa from online pages outside the list. The district police are always at people's service, and they can call the district police hotline number whenever needed.
