A festive mood has taken hold in the fishing villages along the rivers. Fishermen have already repaired their nets and boats and made ready. Hilsa fishing will start again after 12 midnight on Monday.

Activity is also returning to the Chandpur fish ghat, one of the largest in the southern region. The fisheries department claims the programme was successful this year, as in previous years.

The 22-day mother hilsa protection drive ran from 4 October to 25 October, from Shatnol in Chandpur to Char Alexander in Lakshmipur. The local administration, fisheries department, Coast Guard and river police were active to make the programme a success.
