The Coast Guard has seized 1,600 kg (40 maunds) of jatka (juvenile hilsa) in a raid in the bridge area next to Palbazar in Chandpur town.

The jatka was seized on the afternoon of Thursday (28 November) after a search of a mini pickup van that was bringing it from Noakhali to Chandpur.

Lieutenant Takiul Ahsan, commander of the Coast Guard's Chandpur station, confirmed the information in the evening.

He said a Coast Guard patrol team raided the bridge area next to Palbazar in the afternoon on a tip-off and seized the jatka. It was later taken to the Coast Guard station and distributed among local orphanages, madrasas, and poor and destitute families.
