A 70-year-old man named Mohammad Hossain has been killed by a wild elephant in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar.

The incident happened around 11:30pm on Monday (7 April) near Kumari Bridge at Fatehar Ghona in Fashiakhali union of the upazila. The Forest Department and local people later recovered the body from the forest. Mohammad Hossain was the son of the late Azizur Rahman of Chharar Kul in Fashiakhali union.

According to the Forest Department and local sources, he left home around 4pm on Monday to fish at Kumarichhara, inside a reserved forest under the Cox's Bazar North Forest Division. When he did not return after dusk, his family began searching for him. Around 11:30pm his body was found lying near Kumari Bridge on the Cox's Bazar-Bandarban border.

Mehraj Uddin, Fashiakhali range officer of the Forest Department, said he had learned that an elderly man named Mohammad Hossain had died in a wild elephant attack.

Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chakaria police station, said Mohammad Hossain died after being trampled by the elephant. His head was crushed and there were injury marks all over his body.
