Black carp, biket carp and mirror carp are easy to farm. These fish grow quickly and are profitable too. Here is what you need to know about the three.

Black carp grows very fast, reaching 5-7 kg in a year. Its main food is small mussels and snails, and it is a strong fish. Fingerlings are available from April to October. Fingerlings of 3-4 inches cost Tk 15 each and those of 5-6 inches Tk 20.

Prices are set by the size of the fish; usually a kg of fingerlings costs Tk 250-300. Biket carp fingerlings can be carried alive for up to 200-250 km. Among the carps this fish grows fast. Biket carp lives in the upper layer of the water and usually feeds there. It is best raised in mixed culture.

Quality mirror carp fingerlings are sold for commercial farming. Raised in a large pond or beel, the fish grows to between 800 grams and 1 kg in just six months. It is best raised in mixed culture. The fingerlings are sold by the kg, priced by size, and can be carried alive for up to 300 km by truck in water-filled drums.
