A capped langur (mukhpora hanuman) has died in a road accident in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. The accident happened at about 4.30pm on Friday, 11 September, as it crossed the Dhaka-Sylhet highway near Sreemangal's No 6 bridge.

The langur was injured while crossing the highway. CNG auto-rickshaw driver Akhil Malakar saw it lying by the road, gave it water and tried to save it, then informed the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation.

Foundation director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Deep reached the spot immediately and took the injured langur to the upazila livestock office and veterinary hospital. The doctor on duty examined it and declared it dead.

The dead langur was later handed over to the Sreemangal forest range office.

Kazi Nazmul Islam, range officer of the Sreemangal Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said the capped langur had died in a road accident.
