Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) held a discussion and a tree-planting programme to mark Sheikh Russel Day 2022.

BUET teachers and students took part in the programmes on Tuesday afternoon, attended by vice-chancellor Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder and pro-vice-chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan.

The discussion began with a minute's silence in memory of Sheikh Russel. BUET teachers spoke about and recalled Sheikh Russel's short life of 11 years. On 15 August 1975, the child Sheikh Russel was killed along with Bangabandhu by the assassins' bullets. He was then a class four student at University Laboratory School.

Prayers were offered for the souls of Sheikh Russel and the other members of Bangabandhu's family killed on 15 August.

The vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor then inaugurated the tree-planting programme by planting coconut saplings on the campus field.

Deans of faculties, heads of departments, the registrar, teachers, hall provosts and assistant provosts, heads of offices, institutes and centres, students and university staff were present.
