The voluntary organisation Bison Limited is working at Dhaka South City Corporation's animal markets to raise awareness among buyers and sellers about managing sacrificial animal waste, preventing coronavirus infection and stopping the spread of Aedes mosquitoes, and to encourage people to follow health guidelines.
At 11 markets in the South City, the organisation is distributing free masks, has set up a pair of hand-washing basins at each market, and is handing out leaflets on controlling Aedes mosquitoes and preventing coronavirus. It is also showing animated videos on LED smart boards on proper management of animal waste after the sacrifice, destroying Aedes breeding sites and preventing coronavirus infection.
Ikram Ahmed, the organisation's managing director, said it was carrying out the voluntary work at Dhaka South City Corporation's animal markets out of social responsibility, to raise awareness of sacrificial waste management and of preventing dengue and coronavirus. "So far we have distributed two lakh masks and 50,000 leaflets. Three animated videos are being shown on 14 LED smart boards at 11 animal markets. A pair of basins for hand-washing has been installed at each market," he said.
He said an average of 12 of its volunteers were distributing masks and leaflets at the entrance and inside each market, and hand wash was also being distributed to encourage people to prevent coronavirus infection.
