Coast Guard members seized a trawler in Bhola carrying 280 kg (seven maunds) of hilsa and 40 kg of pangas that were being taken for sale in defiance of the fishing ban.

The fish were seized on the Meghna at Ramdaspur in Bhola on the afternoon of Monday, 25 October. The Coast Guard could not detain anyone. The seized fish were distributed to a local orphanage.

The information was confirmed in a press release signed by Tahsin Rahman, media officer of the Coast Guard's southern zone.

Because it is the hilsa breeding season, the government banned catching hilsa and all other fish in a 190-kilometre stretch of river in Bhola from 4 October to 25 October. Transporting, buying, selling, marketing and storing fish were also banned during this period. All the restrictions are being lifted after 12 midnight tonight.
