The Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) has taken an initiative to sell hilsa at a low price. It will sell hilsa weighing 450 to 850 grams at Tk 600 a kg.

After a formal launch at midday tomorrow (Sunday), the hilsa will be sold at the fish shop in the BFDC building at Karwan Bazar. The programme will be launched by Farida Akhter, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

The amount of hilsa available for sale is 850 kg, and it will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation and the Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Association are jointly running the hilsa marketing programme. Its slogan is "Incomparable in taste and aroma: buy hilsa and be blessed". The hilsa was reportedly caught in the Bay of Bengal by fishing vessels.
