Hilsa prices have risen in Barishal's markets on news of exports to India. On reports of the price rise, the Barishal divisional office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection carried out a drive.

The drive was held at noon on Wednesday (25 September) at the Port Road wholesale fish market in Barishal.

The directorate warned wholesalers and retailers during the drive, and told them to put up price lists so that no one could sell hilsa at inflated prices in the retail market.

Apurba Adhikari, deputy director of the directorate's Barishal office, who led the drive, said no irregularity in hilsa prices was found. But action will be taken against anyone who tries to form a syndicate and sell at higher prices, he said.

In Barishal on Wednesday, one-kg hilsa were selling at Tk 68,000 a maund, 1.2-kg hilsa at Tk 72,000 and the LC size at Tk 62,000.
