Forest department staff have rescued a python from a kitchen in Patharghata, Barguna. The snake was later released in the Haringhata mangrove forest.

The python was rescued around noon on Wednesday (11 January) from the kitchen of Babul Munshi's house in Ruhita village in the upazila.

According to the Patharghata forest department, Babul Munshi's wife went into the kitchen to cook lunch and screamed when she saw a huge snake. Neighbours who ran over found it was a python and informed the Patharghata forest department. The forest department and the wildlife conservation and rescue team Animal Lover of Patharghata went to the house and rescued the python unharmed. It was released in the Haringhata forest in the afternoon.

Monir Hossain, Tengra beat officer of the Patharghata forest department, said the python was six feet long and had strayed into the village from the Haringhata forest by mistake. Because local people were aware, nobody hurt it.
