Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed inaugurated the Bangladesh Army Tree Planting Campaign 2024 on Sunday, 9 June.

Marking the occasion, he planted a bakul sapling in the Shahid Moinul Road area of Dhaka Cantonment and declared open, by video teleconference (VTC), simultaneous planting programmes at all cantonments and DOHS areas across the country, including Dhaka, and at the Jolshiri housing project area.

At the opening of the National Tree Planting Campaign and Tree Fair 2024 on 5 June, held under the theme 'Decorate the country with trees, enrich Bangladesh', Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged everyone to plant at least three trees around their homes and in open spaces at offices to protect the environment.

In line with that, fruit, timber and medicinal trees as well as ornamental saplings will be planted at all cantonments, training areas, firing ranges, DOHS areas and the Jolshiri housing project area under the army's campaign, which will run until 5 September.

The main aim of the programme is to encourage everyone to plant trees on their own initiative to increase the country's forest resources and protect its environmental balance.

Senior army officers from Army Headquarters and the Dhaka area, JCOs, soldiers of other ranks and members of the media were present.
