Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has inaugurated the Bangladesh Army Tree Plantation Campaign 2022 under the theme "Brikkhaprane prakriti-protibesh, agami projonmer teksoi Bangladesh" (nature and environment in the life of trees, a sustainable Bangladesh for the next generation).

He inaugurated the programme on 16 June in the Nirjhor area of Dhaka Cantonment, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

By planting a bakul sapling, the army chief simultaneously launched the programme at Dhaka Cantonment and all other cantonments, DOHS areas and the Jolshiri housing project across the country via video teleconference (VTC).

The Bangladesh Army will plant about 250,000 saplings this year.

The campaign will run until 5 September at all cantonments, all training areas including Swarnadweep in Noakhali, firing ranges, DOHS areas and the Jolshiri housing project.

Senior officers of Army Headquarters and the Army's Dhaka area, along with other army personnel, were present. At the same time, area commanders in all army areas launched tree planting with their own personnel.
